Can I Get the Same SPC Flooring Color in My Next Order Batch Consistency Guide 2026

You ordered SPC flooring last year and need more for a new room. Can you order the same color and expect it to match exactly. The answer depends on how the factory manages their production.

Why Color Can Vary Between Batches

Print films wear over time. The film used to print the wood grain pattern gradually loses color intensity after thousands of meters of production. A new print film produces slightly different color than one that is halfway through its life. Factories should replace print films regularly, but not all do.

Raw material batches change. Limestone powder from different quarries can have slightly different color. PVC resin from different suppliers can affect the core color. These raw material variations are small but can affect the final appearance of the plank.

Lamination temperature and pressure vary slightly between production runs. Even 1 degree difference in temperature can affect how the print film bonds to the core. This changes the color depth slightly.

How Factories Control Color Consistency

Good factories keep records of each production batch including print film usage, raw material source, and production parameters. When you reorder, they reference your previous order records and try to replicate the same conditions. They test color against a master sample at the start of each production run. If the color is outside tolerance, they adjust the parameters before full production.

Some factories cut samples from the beginning of your production run and send them for your approval before continuing. This adds 2 to 3 days to the timeline but ensures color accuracy.

What You Can Do

When you order, request that the factory keeps the same print film installed for your repeat order. Order extra material in the first order for future use. This is the best way to ensure color match. If you need to reorder, ask the factory if they have the same print film and raw material source available. Request pre production samples from the new batch before full production.

Acceptable Variation

Minor color variation within Delta E 1.5 is normal and not noticeable in most installations. Variation above Delta E 3.0 is visible when planks from two batches are placed side by side. If the rooms are separate, slight variation is acceptable. If the flooring continues from one room to another without a transition, variation will be noticeable. Install a transition strip between different batches to hide the color change.
