Flooring That Does Not Warp in Sunlight Heat Resistant Options

Direct sunlight damages many flooring products. UV rays fade the color. Heat causes warping. This is a common problem in rooms with large windows, sliding glass doors, and sunrooms. This guide covers flooring that resists sunlight damage.

Why Flooring Warps in Sunlight

Sunlight heats the floor surface unevenly. The area near the window gets hotter than the area further inside the room. The hot area expands more. This creates stress in the flooring.

For SPC, the PVC in the core softens in heat. The planks can develop a cup shape with raised edges. This is called cupping and it is permanent in many cases.

For laminate, the HDF core can warp from the temperature difference. The locking mechanism can separate. Gaps appear between planks.

MFB Heat Resistance

MFB contains no PVC and no wood fibers. The mineral core does not soften in heat. The thermal expansion is extremely low. MFB maintains its flatness even in direct sunlight.

This makes MFB the best choice for sunrooms, rooms with large south facing windows, and any space with significant sunlight exposure.

UV Resistance

MFB surface has UV resistant properties. The wear layer protects against fading. MFB maintains its color longer than standard SPC in sunny conditions.

For rooms with intense sun exposure, MFB is the most reliable rigid core option.
