Is There a Flooring That Does Not Buckle or Gap in Any Season

Seasonal changes cause problems for most flooring. Winter gaps. Summer buckling. Spring humidity swelling. Homeowners in regions with four distinct seasons see this every year. This article answers the question: is there a flooring that stays the same year round?

The Seasonal Problem

In winter, heating systems dry out the air. Indoor humidity drops to 20 to 30 percent. Laminate and hardwood release moisture and shrink. Gaps of 1mm to 2mm appear between planks. These gaps collect dirt and look unattractive.

In summer, humidity rises to 60 to 80 percent. The same planks absorb moisture and expand. If there is not enough expansion space, the floor buckles. The planks lift at the edges.

SPC handles this better than laminate but still has issues. The PVC in SPC softens in summer heat. The planks can warp near windows. In winter, SPC can contract enough to create small gaps.

MFB Stability

MFB flooring does not change size with the seasons. The mineral fiber core has negligible expansion across the entire humidity and temperature range. An MFB floor installed in January looks exactly the same in August.

No gap. No buckling. No warping. No seasonal calls for the installer.

This makes MFB the best choice for homes in regions with large seasonal humidity swings. Northern states with cold winters and humid summers. Southern states with high year round humidity. Mountain states with dry air.

Installation Confidence

With MFB, the installer does not need to calculate expansion gaps based on the season of installation. The same installation method works year round. The floor performs the same regardless of when it is installed.
