How to Import SPC Flooring From Vietnam Step by Step Guide
Importing SPC flooring from Vietnam is becoming more common as buyers diversify their supply chain. The process is similar to importing from China but has some differences. This guide walks through each step from finding a factory to receiving your container.
Step 1 Find a Reliable Vietnam Factory
The SPC flooring industry in Vietnam is concentrated in the southern provinces near Ho Chi Minh City. Binh Duong province and Dong Nai province have the highest concentration of factories. Some factories are also located in Haiphong in the north near the port.
Finding a reliable factory requires due diligence. Ask for factory registration documents, export licenses, and customer references. Request video calls to see the production line in real time. If possible, arrange a factory visit or hire a third party inspection company.
Step 2 Product Selection and Sample Approval
Vietnamese factories stock the most common SPC products. Standard 5mm and 6mm thickness, 7 inch or 9 inch widths, and popular wood grain colors. If your desired product is standard, sample turnaround is usually 7 to 14 days.
For custom colors or sizes, expect 20 to 30 days for sample development. Vietnamese factories have less design resources than China, so complex patterns or multi color designs may take longer.
Step 3 Order Confirmation and Deposit
After sample approval, confirm the order with a proforma invoice. Standard payment terms are 30 percent deposit and 70 percent balance against copy of shipping documents. Some factories accept letters of credit from established importers.
Vietnam factories typically require minimum order quantities per color. Standard MOQ is 300 to 500 square meters per color per design. Confirm MOQ before placing the order.
Step 4 Production and Quality Inspection
Production lead time is 25 to 40 days depending on order size and material availability. Arrange a third party inspection during production. Check thickness tolerance, squareness, locking mechanism fit, and wear layer quality.
Request photos of production milestones. The factory should send pictures of raw material arrival, extrusion process, finished goods, and packaging.
Step 5 Shipping and Logistics
Major container ports in Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh City (Cat Lai port) and Haiphong. Shipping to the US West Coast takes 12 to 16 days. Shipping to the US East Coast takes 20 to 25 days via the Panama Canal.
Container loading should be supervised. SPC flooring is heavy. A 20 foot container holds approximately 2000 to 2500 square meters depending on thickness. Confirm loading is efficient and planks are properly packed.
Step 6 Customs Clearance
Importing SPC flooring from Vietnam into the US requires the same documentation as from China. Bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin. Certificate of origin form V is needed to claim preferential duty rates if applicable.
Work with a customs broker who has experience with vinyl flooring imports. They will calculate the correct duty rate and handle clearance.
Step 7 Delivery and Warehousing
After customs clearance, arrange inland transportation to your warehouse. The trucking company should have experience handling heavy containers. Check the container for damage before accepting delivery.
Inspect a sample of planks upon arrival. Check for transit damage, moisture exposure, and compare to the approved sample.
