Is MFB Flooring Good for Bathroom Shower and Wet Areas
MFB flooring is waterproof at the core level. The mineral fiber core does not absorb water, swell, or soften. This makes it one of the few click lock flooring products suitable for bathroom installation. Here is what you need to know.
Bathroom Suitability
MFB can be installed in full bathrooms including areas near showers and tubs. The mineral core handles splashes, high humidity, and occasional standing water without damage. This is a major advantage over laminate, SPC, and LVT, which all require careful moisture management in bathrooms.
No glue down installation is needed. MFB uses standard click lock installation, the same as in a living room or bedroom. The mineral core does not expand from moisture, so the locking mechanism stays tight and stable.
Shower Area Limitations
MFB is not recommended for direct shower floors where standing water is constant. The click lock seams can allow water through to the subfloor over time. For shower floors, tile or sheet vinyl is more appropriate.
For bathroom areas outside the shower enclosure, MFB works very well. Splashes, humidity, and wet footprints do not damage the core.
Installation for Bathrooms
Standard click lock installation. No glue, no adhesive. The mineral core is moisture resistant, so subfloor moisture testing is not required. No vapor barrier or underlayment is needed even on concrete subfloors. Leave a standard expansion gap at walls and cover with baseboard.
Maintenance in Bathrooms
Wipe up standing water promptly. Use a bath mat outside the shower. Clean with pH neutral bathroom cleaner. MFB is safe to clean with damp mops and mild cleaners.
