MFB Flooring Installation Step by Step Guide
MFB flooring installation is simpler than other rigid core products. The mineral fiber core is dimensionally stable, which means subfloor requirements are less strict and underlayment is optional. This guide covers the installation process.
Tools Needed
Tape measure, utility knife, jigsaw or circular saw, tapping block and mallet, pull bar, spacers, safety glasses.
Subfloor Preparation
Subfloor must be clean and dry. MFB is more forgiving on flatness than SPC or laminate. The mineral core does not flex or bridge over minor subfloor irregularities. Standard flatness requirements apply but the tolerance is less critical. Fill明显低洼处 with leveling compound if needed. Sweep and vacuum before installation.
Underlayment
MFB does not require underlayment. The mineral core is moisture resistant, so no vapor barrier is needed even on concrete subfloors. The plank structure is stable enough to install directly on the subfloor.
If you prefer a softer feel underfoot, you can add a thin EPE foam pad. EPE is a closed cell foam that does not absorb moisture. A 1mm to 2mm EPE pad adds comfort without affecting the dimensional stability of the floor. Do not use thick foam underlayment. Thick underlayment can cause the click lock joints to stress under foot traffic.
Acclimation
Allow MFB planks to acclimate in the installation room for 24 hours. Stack planks flat in the center of the room. Room temperature 65 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
Installation
Start in a corner and work across the room. Leave a minimal expansion gap at walls. MFB does not expand significantly, so the standard gap can be smaller than what SPC or laminate require. Click planks together at an angle and press down. Use tapping block to close seams. Stagger end joints by at least 6 inches.
Cut planks with jigsaw or circular saw. Cut face down with fine tooth blade for clean edge.
Finishing
Remove spacers. Install baseboards or quarter round to cover expansion gap. Install transition strips at doorways. Caulk perimeter if needed.
