MFB Flooring vs Laminate Flooring Core Difference Comparison

MFB and laminate are both rigid core flooring products but they are made from completely different materials. The core difference determines performance, durability, and application range.

Core Material

MFB uses a mineral fiber core. The material is waterproof, stable, and contains no wood products.

Laminate uses an HDF high density fiberboard core made from compressed wood fibers. The wood based core absorbs moisture and can swell.

Waterproof Performance

MFB is fully waterproof. The mineral core does not absorb water. Suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, and basements.

Laminate is not waterproof. The HDF core swells when exposed to moisture. Even waterproof laminate has a treated core that is less water resistant than MFB.

Durability

MFB is more dimensionally stable than laminate. Temperature and humidity changes have minimal effect on the mineral core.

Laminate expands and contracts with humidity changes. This can cause gapping and buckling in extreme conditions.

Environmental Impact

MFB is PVC free and uses natural mineral materials. Production has lower environmental impact.

Laminate uses wood fiber from managed forests. The core is recyclable but moisture damage can make disposal more difficult.

Which to Choose

Choose MFB for any application where you want the best performance. MFB outperforms laminate in every category: waterproof, dimensional stability, outdoor capability, and durability. Laminate is only suitable for dry interior rooms where budget is the main constraint.
