SPC Flooring Minimum Order Quantity Guide for Importers

Minimum order quantities for SPC flooring depend on whether you choose new colors or stock colors. The rules are different for different markets. This guide explains how factories manage MOQ and what to expect as a new importer.

New Colors vs Stock Colors

Every SPC flooring factory has two categories of colors: stock colors and new colors.

Stock colors are existing designs that the factory has already produced. The print film inventory is already in place. Ordering stock colors requires no additional film purchase. The MOQ is more flexible.

New colors require the factory to purchase print film specifically for your order. Each print film has a minimum order quantity from the supplier typically 3000 meters. This produces approximately 2500 square meters of finished flooring. When a customer chooses new colors, the film cost must be spread across the order volume.

Color Limits by Market

The number of new colors per container depends on the customer profile and market.

For US customers, most importers order up to 3 colors per container. US buyers are typically experienced importers who already know their market. They order proven designs and focus on volume.

For Southeast Asian customers, the approach is different. New importers from Southeast Asia often use a first order to build a complete product line. They are expanding their business and need a range of colors from the start. These customers can order up to 5 new colors in a first container.

Experienced importers replacing an existing supplier usually ask the factory to match their current colors. These are colors already proven in their market. The factory can match most colors while keeping the number of new film purchases low.

Why New Colors Cost More

When you order new colors, the factory purchases print film specifically for your order. The film supplier requires a minimum quantity per design. This cost is factored into the pricing.

A typical first order with 3 to 5 new colors requires the factory to purchase film for each color. This adds cost that does not apply to stock colors. The film cost is spread across the order volume, so larger orders have lower per-unit film cost.

Stock Color Advantage

Stock colors require no new film purchase. The factory already has the film in inventory. This means lower pricing and more flexible minimums. Stock colors are available in smaller quantities without the setup cost.

The downside of stock colors is that they are not exclusive. Other customers can order the same designs. For many importers testing a new market, this is acceptable. Once you build volume, you can switch to custom colors.

Recommended First Order Strategy

For a first order, mix stock colors with 1 to 2 new colors. This keeps the film cost low while testing the factory quality. Order stock colors for your base volume and new colors for differentiation.

After the first order is successful, you can add more new colors in subsequent orders. The factory already has your account set up. The communication and quality expectations are established.
