SPC Flooring Pre-Installation Checklist 2025
Before installing SPC flooring run through this checklist. It covers all the factors that affect installation quality. Checking these items prevents most common flooring problems.
Room Temperature
Maintain room temperature between 18 and 27 degrees Celsius for at least 48 hours before installation. This allows the flooring and room to reach temperature equilibrium. Do not install in rooms that are too hot or too cold.
Subfloor Condition
Subfloor must be dry clean and smooth. Check flatness with a straight edge. Maximum deviation should be 3mm over 2 meters. Fill low spots and grind down high spots. Remove all debris and dust. The subfloor must be fully cured and stable.
Concrete Moisture
Test concrete moisture level. Acceptable moisture is below 95 percent RH. If moisture is too high install a vapor barrier. Wait for new concrete to cure fully before installation.
Acclimation
Store the SPC flooring in the installation room for 24 to 48 hours before installation. Keep the cartons closed during acclimation. The room temperature should be at normal living conditions during acclimation. Do not acclimate in a different room and then move the flooring.
Expansion Gap
Plan for 8 to 10mm expansion gap around all walls. Leave gap around pipes columns and door frames. Check that transitions to other rooms will have proper expansion space. Heavy furniture placement should not restrict floor movement.
Tools and Materials
Prepare all tools before starting: tape measure utility knife tapping block pull bar spacers saw and safety equipment. Have underlayment transitions and trim ready. Confirm you have enough flooring.
Final Check
Walk through the installation area one more time. Confirm subfloor is flat and clean. Confirm room temperature is correct. Confirm you have the right amount of flooring.
