Can You Install MFB Flooring Over Radiant Heating
MFB flooring is fully compatible with radiant heating systems. The mineral fiber core is dimensionally stable. It does not expand or contract with temperature changes. This makes MFB one of the best click lock flooring choices for heated floors.
No Underlayment Needed
MFB can be installed directly over radiant heating without underlayment. The mineral core is moisture resistant, so no vapor barrier is needed. No foam pad is required. The direct contact allows maximum heat transfer from the heating system to the floor surface.
If you prefer a softer feel underfoot, a thin EPE foam pad can be used. EPE is closed cell and does not trap heat. Standard foam underlayment should be avoided because it reduces heat transfer.
Temperature Limits
The mineral core handles higher surface temperatures than SPC or laminate. MFB does not soften or warp at elevated temperatures. Recommended maximum surface temperature is 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Hydronic system water temperature should not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Because MFB does not expand from heat, there is no risk of peaking or buckling at the seams. The floor stays flat and stable even with daily heating cycles.
Installation Requirements
Standard click lock installation. No special preparation needed for radiant heating systems. Install at room temperature 65 to 80 degrees. Leave a standard expansion gap at walls.
