How to Evaluate a Vietnam SPC Flooring Factory Factory Audit Guide
More buyers are looking at Vietnam for SPC flooring. But not all Vietnam factories are equal. Some are well run operations with experienced teams. Others are still developing their production capabilities. This guide helps you evaluate a Vietnam factory properly.
Check the Equipment Source
SPC production lines in Vietnam are typically imported from China. Ask which Chinese machinery manufacturer supplied the equipment. Well known manufacturers produce reliable lines. Unknown brands may cause quality consistency issues.
Check when the equipment was installed. Newer lines from 2022 onwards have better automation and thickness control. Older lines may produce less consistent planks. Ask about maintenance records. Well maintained older lines can outperform poorly maintained new ones.
Inspect the Raw Material Warehouse
Vietnam factories import most raw materials from China. A well managed factory has organized raw material storage. Check the condition of PVC resin, print film, wear layer, and packaging materials.
Look for signs of proper storage. Raw materials should be kept in a climate controlled area. Print film should be stored away from direct sunlight. PVC resin should be kept dry. Disorganized storage indicates poor management.
The limestone powder is sourced locally in Vietnam. Ask about the mesh count and purity. Higher mesh count produces smoother core quality. Vietnamese limestone can be higher quality than Chinese sources when sourced from the right quarry.
Production Engineer Background
The production engineers in Vietnam factories are often Chinese nationals with years of SPC production experience. Ask how many years of experience the lead engineer has. Ask whether they worked at well known Chinese SPC factories before moving to Vietnam.
A factory with experienced Chinese engineers produces quality comparable to Chinese factories. A factory relying solely on locally trained engineers may have more trial and error.
QC Lab and Testing Equipment
A proper SPC factory has an in house QC lab. Check for basic testing equipment: thickness gauge, wear layer tester, indentation tester, and lock strength tester. Ask which tests are performed on each production batch.
Standard tests include thickness measurement at multiple points, visual inspection for surface defects, locking mechanism fit test, and squareness check. Factories that skip these tests have higher defect rates.
Ask for recent QC reports. A transparent factory shares test data without hesitation.
Line Speed and Production Volume
Line speed affects core density. Slower line speeds produce denser more stable cores. Very fast line speeds can produce inconsistent cores. Ask about the line speed for standard 5mm SPC production.
Total production capacity matters less than consistency. A factory running one line consistently at good quality is better than a factory running multiple lines with quality variations.
Communication and Responsiveness
English proficiency varies at Vietnam factories. Some have dedicated English speaking sales staff. Others rely on translation tools. Test the communication before placing an order.
Ask technical questions about your product specification. The response time and accuracy reveal how well the factory understands its own production. A factory that answers technical questions clearly is more reliable.
