LVT Flooring Accessories Transitions Moldings and Tools
A professional LVT installation requires the right accessories. Here is what you need for click lock LVT installation.
Expansion Gap Covers
The expansion gap around the room must be covered. Quarter round molding is the most common choice. For LVT, the expansion gap is 6mm to 8mm which is smaller than laminate. Standard quarter round covers this easily. Base shoe molding gives a cleaner look than quarter round.
Transition Strips
T-molding connects LVT to other flooring of similar height. It covers the expansion gap at doorways. Reducer strip connects LVT to a lower floor like carpet or tile. End cap finishes the LVT edge at sliding doors or fireplace hearths. Stair nose molding finishes LVT on stairs.
Underlayment
For click lock LVT without attached pad, 1mm to 2mm underlayment is needed. Underlayment tape to seal underlayment seams. Vapor barrier 6 mil polyethylene for concrete subfloors.
Tools
Tapping block for locking planks. Pull bar for the last row. Spacers for expansion gap 6mm. Rubber mallet. Utility knife for scoring and snapping LVT. Straight edge for cutting. Jigsaw for curved cuts. Measuring tape. Safety glasses and knee pads.
Adhesive
For glue down LVT, you need LVT adhesive. Pressure sensitive adhesive allows planks to be replaced individually. Full spread adhesive provides stronger bond. Adhesive trowel with correct notch size. Roller to press planks into adhesive.
How LVT Accessories Differ From SPC
LVT and SPC use the same trim and transition types. The expansion gap is the same 6mm to 8mm for both. LVT without attached pad needs underlayment. SPC with attached pad does not. Glue down LVT needs adhesive which SPC does not.
