SPC Flooring Container Loading and Shipping Guide 2023

Shipping SPC flooring from China to the USA involves careful planning. Understanding container capacity, weight limits, and shipping options helps you optimize your order and reduce costs.

Container Types for SPC Flooring

The 20ft container is the most common choice for SPC flooring. Internal dimensions are approximately 5.9 meters long, 2.35 meters wide, and 2.39 meters high. Maximum payload is approximately 25,000 kilograms. This is the limiting factor for SPC which is a heavy product.

The 40ft container doubles the length for higher volume. Internal dimensions are approximately 12 meters long, 2.35 meters wide, and 2.39 meters high. Maximum payload is approximately 28,000 kilograms. The weight limit is similar to a 20ft container despite the larger volume.

The 40ft High Cube container offers extra height. Internal height is approximately 2.69 meters. Best for SPC products stacked on high pallets or racks.

Container Capacity Under 25 Ton Limit for SPC

4mm SPC flooring fits approximately 2,900 square meters per 20ft container.

5mm SPC flooring fits approximately 2,300 square meters per 20ft container.

6mm SPC flooring fits approximately 1,900 square meters per 20ft container.

8mm SPC flooring fits approximately 1,450 square meters per 20ft container.

The weight limit is the primary constraint. SPC is dense because of the stone content. Most containers reach the weight limit before they reach the volume limit.

Packing Methods

Flooring cartons are stacked on pallets or loaded directly as loose cartons. Palletized loading is easier to handle at the destination. Loose loading allows more cartons per container but requires more labor for unloading. Each method has trade-offs between cost and convenience.

Shipping Options

FCL (Full Container Load) means you book the entire container. Best for orders of one full container or more. The container is sealed at the factory and opened at your destination.

LCL (Less than Container Load) means your cargo shares a container with other shipments. Best for smaller orders. LCL takes longer because the container is consolidated at the freight station.

Shipping Routes and Transit Time

From Shanghai or Ningbo to Los Angeles or Long Beach takes approximately 18 to 25 days. From Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Los Angeles or Long Beach takes approximately 16 to 22 days. From Haiphong or Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to Los Angeles or Long Beach takes approximately 14 to 20 days.

Shipping Costs

Ocean freight rates fluctuate based on season, fuel prices, and global demand. Expect to pay between 1,000 and 3,000 dollars for a 20ft container from China to the US West Coast in normal market conditions. Rates can be higher during peak season.

Insurance

Cargo insurance is recommended. It covers loss or damage during transit. Typical cost is 0.1 to 0.3 percent of the cargo value.

Customs Clearance Process

Your shipment must clear US Customs before delivery. Required documents include Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Certificate of Origin. The HTS code for SPC flooring is 3918.10.20. Customs duties for Chinese SPC are currently higher than for Vietnamese SPC due to tariff differences.
