SPC Flooring Quality Control: How to Inspect Before Shipment 2024

Quality control is essential when importing SPC flooring from overseas. A small quality issue can become a big problem when your container arrives. This guide covers what to inspect before shipment.

Why Third Party Inspection Matters

Third party inspection companies like SGS Bureau Veritas and Intertek provide unbiased quality reports. They visit the factory after production is complete and before the container is loaded. Their inspection covers product quality quantity and packaging. The cost is a few hundred dollars per container. It is the best investment you can make for peace of mind.

What to Inspect

Product Dimensions

Measure plank thickness at multiple points. Tolerance should be within plus or minus 0.1mm. Measure plank width and length. Tolerance should be within plus or minus 0.3mm. Check that all planks in the batch are consistent. Randomly select 10 to 20 planks from different cartons for measurement.

Wear Layer Thickness

The wear layer is the most important quality factor. Use a gauge to measure actual wear layer thickness. It should match the product specification. Common issues include thinner wear layer on edge pieces or inconsistent thickness across the batch.

Color Consistency

Compare planks from different cartons for color match. Place sample planks side by side and check under natural light. Acceptable color variation should be minimal. Check the surface for printing defects spots or blurry patterns.

Locking Mechanism

Test the click lock connection by joining sample planks. The connection should be tight with no visible gap. Test the locking strength by pulling joined planks apart. The lock should hold firmly. Check for any damage to the locking profile edges.

Core Quality

Check the core density by weighing sample planks. Denser cores indicate higher quality. Check for any visible bubbles or voids in the core edge. Check the back of the plank for a smooth consistent texture.

Packaging Quality

Check that each plank is individually wrapped or has edge protectors. Check that cartons are sturdy and properly sealed. Verify labeling matches the product specification. Check the pallet wrapping and strapping for container loading.

Quantity Verification

Count the total number of cartons. Verify the quantity matches the packing list. Weigh random cartons to verify consistency. Confirm total square meters matches the order.

Inspection Checklist Summary

Verify product specifications match the order confirmation. Measure thickness width and length of random samples. Test wear layer thickness with a gauge. Check color consistency across production batch. Test locking mechanism strength. Inspect core quality and density. Verify packaging quality and labeling. Confirm quantity matches packing list.
